Bangkok offers 'best bang for buck' worldwide



The results are on Tripadvisor's inaugural cost comparison of 50 global tourist cities

According to the Tripindex research, a night in a four-star hotel in Bangkok averages US$86.

And the accolades keep rolling in.


Just a couple of weeks after Travel+Leisure readers voted Bangkok the “World's Best City," Tripadvisor.com says the Thai capital offers the “Best Bang for Buck” worldwide.
The travel website released the results of its inaugural TripIndex –- a cost comparison of 50 key tourist cities around the world and 15 hot spots in the U.S. -- tracked against the U.S. dollar.
Beating 49 cities, Bangkok was found to be the best-value global city for U.S. travelers, with a total TripIndex tally of US$112.

The results are based on the combined cost of one night’s accommodation (four-star hotel), a core food item (pizza), an alcoholic drink (dry martini) and a round-trip taxi journey.

Joining Bangkok in the top 10 best-value cities are: Beijing, Sharm el Sheikh, Kuala Lumpur, Sofia, Budapest, Auckland, Marrakech, Warsaw and Dubai.

Las Vegas was found to be the least expensive city in the U.S. for domestic travelers, with a TripIndex cost of $164.

On the flipside, the 10 most expensive cities for U.S. travelers are: Paris, Zurich, London, Tokyo, New York City, Rio de Janeiro, Moscow, Kiev, Amsterdam and Stockholm.
